Our story
Built slowly, on a second-hand wheel
Morrow & Clay started in 2011 in a converted garage in Southeast Portland. Sarah bought a used Shimpo wheel with savings from her barista job, learned to fire a secondhand kiln, and sold her first batch of mugs at the local farmers market.
Fourteen years later, the studio is still small by choice. We mix our own glazes, fire with gas and electric kilns, and keep every batch under 40 pieces — large enough to matter, small enough to care.

Stories
From our customers
"I ordered a full dinner service for our wedding and every plate is a little different. Twelve years from now, I'll still be reaching for these pieces every morning."
Maya Ruiz
Private chef, Portland
"I took Sarah's beginner workshop expecting a fun afternoon — I left with a lopsided mug and a new obsession. The studio is calm, organized and genuinely welcoming."
Tomas Hill
Architect, Lake Oswego
"We commissioned a set of 12 place settings as a gift for my parents' 50th anniversary. The whole experience — from initial sketches to final delivery — was thoughtful and personal."

Questions, answered
Yes, all our glazes are food-safe and formulated for dishwashers. However, we recommend hand-washing to protect the exposed clay foot of each piece — it will last longer and develop a richer patina.
We open the studio on the first Saturday of every month from 10am–2pm. You can browse current batches, see the kiln room, and meet the team. No appointment needed.
We pack every piece in custom foam and double-wall boxes. In the unlikely event of damage, email us a photo within 7 days and we'll send a replacement or issue a full refund — your choice.
