Our Origin
From a Garage in Southeast Portland
Sable & Beam started in 2012 with two things: a table saw in a rented garage and a frustration with fast-furniture that fell apart in two years. Founder Daniel Sable believed furniture should be built like heirlooms, not disposables.
The first piece was a dining table for his sister's new restaurant. It took 11 days to build. That table is still in use today. Word spread, and within a year, Daniel and co-founder Mia Okafor were making pieces for 40 local homes.
Today, our workshop spans 18,000 square feet. Over 14,200 pieces have left our floor. The core philosophy hasn't changed: use the best solid hardwood, join it with time-tested methods, and back every piece with a 10-year warranty.

We believe a chair should not end up in a landfill after five years. Our mission is to design and manufacture pieces that are durable, repairable, and honestly made. We design for the 20-year mark, not the quarterly sales target.
